Jane Evans Memorial Service
A memorial service will be held on Saturday 16th June at the Nelson Cathedral, for well known Nelson artist Jane Evans.
Jane passed away at her home in Nelson on Friday 8th of June.
One of our customers ordered from us for small flower posies in bright colours with fragrant flowers to be sent to Jane every two or three days over the last few weeks of her life.
Our customer told us that Jane had the flowers all around her and enjoyed and appreciated them. It has been a great pleasure for Flowers 4 Nelson to provide these flowers, and to help make Jane’s last days a little better.
Hyacinths Flowering
Our Hyacinths have started to flower and we are using them in box and ceramic pot flower arrangements ( the stems being short are too small for use in bunches). The scent these flowers produce is beautiful.
Mothers Day Flowers
Mothers Day orders are still being taken, and at Flowers 4 Nelson we are delivering both Saturday and Sunday for your convieniance. Sunday deliveries are proving very popular, and we are delighted to be able to provide this service to you.
To all the Mums out there we wish you all a happy and enjoyable day on Sunday 13th May.
ANZAC Day
I was so proud of Flowers 4 Nelson’s ANZAC wreaths at the dawn service in Nelson this morning. Local MP for Nelson, Nick Smith and several local organisations laid wreaths I had made and they really stood out as being beautiful and professional.
The wreaths were full of flowers and looked so much livelier and vibrant than the others.
Mothers Day 13th May
Don’t forget to send your Mum some flowers this Mothers Day. This year is the first year that I wont be able to do that, as my Mum passed away last year. I am so glad that I made the effort each year to spoil her and send her flowers when I could not be with her. Even though she protested I shouldn’t do it; she loved getting flowers from me. Make sure you spoil your Mum by sending her beautiful flowers from your Nelson florist at Flowers 4 Nelson. Carl
Fisherman’s casket Spray
At Flowers 4 Nelson we aim to satisfy all requests for floral design. Recently I was asked by a funeral director, to make a casket spray for a local Fisherman that had pased away. It was an interesting assignment , and the result was a casket spray with flowers around the sides as normal, but with the central top part in a fishing scene with a net stretched over the surface and wooden fish ‘swimming’ into it; also a couple of fishing rods complete with hooks made from florist wire. The white statice I used was suggestive of the sea foam of waves in the ocean. I find it great fun to work out and make designs to satisfy my customers.
Tulips
We have received our Tulip bulbs for planting, and have been busy preparing the ground for planting. It is a good idea to plant Tulips fairly deeply in the soil as they need a cool period over winter ( say the top of the bulb 12 cm under the soil), this is especially so in areas that don’t get much frost in winter, as it ensures the bulbs are cooler if they are planted deep. The bulbs will be planted over the next 2 to 4 weeks, and we look forward to providing you with beautiful spring bouquets of Tulips. Commercial growers provide the flower wholesalers with out of season flowers, so If you cant wait until spring, thats Ok we can obtain flowers form the wholesalers most of the year for you.
Ranunculus
I am planting more Ranunculus bulbs today for spring flowers. If you are planting the bulbs it is a good idea to soak the bulbs in water the night before to allow them to swell up and take in water for a quicker start into growth when you plant them.
