Flax flowers for New Zealand flavour

I spent part of today partaking in part of the Nelson Arts Festival programme, where I learnt how to make several forms of flowers from the leaves of the native New Zealand flax;  Harakeke or Phormium tenax

From seemingly unlikely weaving as if by magic came quite beautiful flowers of flax; and as with all good crafts there are variations on the basic technique as to how the final product looks.

Thank you Missey for you instruction today, it was much enjoyed and I intend to continue to practice and to use my new skills in floristry.
