- 1. What flowers do you want to feature in your wedding? Maybe you have a favourite flower that you wish to include in the wedding flowers? Are the flowers you wish to have in your wedding bouquets available at the time of the year that you will be married? What are your favourite colours? and do you want to include them as part of the colour theme for your wedding flowers? What colour will your bridal gown be? What colour will your brides maids wear? If you are going to use roses, lisianthus, etc do you want all of flowers fully open or do you want some (or all) in bud?

Look at examples of bouquets to find ideas for ones that you like Go to your magazine store and look for magazines such as “Bride to Be” and “Modern Wedding Flowers” or check if your library hold copies of these. Look online at wedding florist bouquets to find ideas that you like. - 3. What size bouquets do you want? The medium size of a brides posy bouquet is approximately 20 to 25 cm diameter. It is usual that the brides maids bouquets are smaller than the brides. With trailing style bouquets you need to consider not only the size of the top of the bouquet, but also the length that you want the trail
- 4. Are you going to need a throw away bouquet? The tradition of the bride tossing her bouquet over her shoulder into the guests still continues; but many brides choose to have a small throw away bouquet made so they can toss that instead of the actual brides bouquet.
- 5. Do you want a ribbon binding around the stem of the bouquets? Ribbon around the stems where you hold onto the bouquet makes it more comfortable and can be matched to suit the gown and/or flower colours.
- 6. Button holes for the men in the wedding party It is usual that the groom and best men will have a flower button hole pinned to their jacket or shirt. The tradition is that the groom will have one of the flowers the same as is in his brides bouquet and the best men will have one of the flowers the same as is in the maid’s bouquets. Usually a small amount of foliage and sometimes other trimmings are incorporated .
- 7. What other members of the wedding party / guests may need flowers? Other people to consider ordering flowers for are a) mothers and fathers of the bride and groom. (corsages / buttonholes) b) grandparents of the bride and groom (corsages / button holes) c) flower girls (basket of flowers or petals or small bouquet or hair flowers) d) page boys (buttonholes)
- 8. What other flowers may be required for the ceremony and reception? Areas where flowers may be required are a) At the ceremony – alter, entrance, pew ends, registrar table b) At the reception – entrance, gift table, guest tables, bridal table, cake flowers
